Do Images of ‘Watching Eyes’ Induce Behaviour That Is More Pro-Social or More Normative? A Field Experiment on Littering
Displaying images of eyes causes people to behave more pro-socially in a variety of contexts. However, it is unclear whether eyes work by making people universally more pro-social, or by making them more likely to conform to local norms. If the latter, images of eyes could sometimes make people less pro-social if pro-social behaviour is not the local norm. To separate these hypotheses we conduc...
متن کاملThe Influence of Descriptive Social Norm Information on Sustainable Transportation Behavior: A Field Experiment
A month-long field experiment evaluated the impact of descriptive social norm information on self-reported reduction of private vehicle use. Following a baseline week, participants were asked to reduce their vehicle use by 25% and were randomly assigned to a control condition or to a low or high social norm condition in which they received information that either underor over-reported others’ s...

Extensive evidence from laboratory experiments indicates that many individuals are willing to use costly punishment to enforce social norms, even in one-shot interactions. A note on uniquely (nil) clean ring
A ring R is uniquely (nil) clean in case for any $a in R$ there exists a uniquely idempotent $ein R$ such that $a-e$ is invertible (nilpotent). Let $C =(A V W B)$ be the Morita Context ring. We determine conditions under which the rings $A,B$ are uniquely (nil) clean. Moreover we show that the center of a uniquely (nil) clean ring is uniquely (nil) clean.
